Piotr Beczała - Helmut Deutsch

Piotr Beczala was born in Poland. Celebrated by audiences and critics alike, he is now one of the most sought-after tenors of our time and a guest at the world's most important opera houses. Since his debut as Duca (Rigoletto, Verdi) in 2006, Piotr Beczała has been a regular guest at the Metropolitan Opera. He can also be seen regularly at the State Opera in Munich and La Scala in Milan. He has also appeared at Bayreuth, the ROH Covent Garden, the Liceu, San Francisco Opera, the Nederlandse Opera, Brussels, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Berlin State Opera, Geneva, the Teatr Wielki Warsaw, the Mariinsky Theatre and the Salzburg Festival, among others. In 2016, he made his debut as Lohengrin at the Semperoper under the musical direction of Christian Thielemann, a role he sang in Bayreuth in the summer of 2018. In addition to his operatic career, Piotr Beczała is a sought-after concert and lieder singer.

He has been closely associated with the Vienna State Opera since his debut in 1996 and has sung Maurizio (Adriana Lecouvreur), Don José, Belmonte, Tamino, Faust, Rodolfo, Alfredo, Edgardo, Duca and Roméo, among others.

Piotr Beczala is represented on many CDs and DVDs with a wide-ranging repertoire. In 2014, he received the ECHO Klassik award for "Singer of the Year".

Helmut Deutsch is one of the most important song accompanists of our time. Born in Vienna, he studied there at the conservatory, the music academy and the university, was awarded the city's composition prize and became a professor at the age of 24. His career as a Lied accompanist began with the soprano Irmgard Seefried; the most important singer of his younger years was Hermann Prey, whose partner he was in several hundred concerts. He has worked with many of the most important lieder singers and has performed in all the major music centers. He is currently working with J. Kaufmann, D. Damrau, M. Volle and M. Peter. Helmut Deutsch was a professor at the Munich Academy of Music for 28 years and gives master classes in Europe and Asia. His students include J. Banse, J. Kaufmann, D. Henschel, C. Gerhaher and W. Rieger. Helmut Deutsch's work is documented on more than 100 recordings. His autobiography "Gesang auf Hände tragen" was published in 2019.
