Trained as an actor and musical performer in Vienna and Los Angeles, he soon gained a foothold on the major Viennese stages. International TV series, cinema and television films as well as presenting for ORF soon became his second mainstay.
For 15 years, he directed the Stockerau Open Air Festival and enjoyed great success with Broadway musicals such as "La Cage Aux Folles" and "A Chorus Line". As an entertainer, his cabaret revues have taken him from Vienna's Theater Akzent to New York's Carnegie Hall and the Friars Club in LA.
In 2018, he celebrated a comeback as a film actor. "The Salzburg Story" by Alexander Peter Lercher was invited to open the California Independent Film Festival 2018 and won the award for best film.
In 2021, Alfons Haider became the general director of Burgenland's music theaters and is thus responsible for the repositioning of the Mörbisch Lake Festival and the festival summer at Tabor Castle in Jennersdorf. In 2023, he was able to attract over 180,000 visitors to the Seefestspiele Mörbisch with "Mamma Mia" and the sales figures for "My Fair Lady" this year should already promise a similarly great success.
"Helping is not a mercy, rather it is a grace to be able to help". Alfons Haider has lived and worked according to this motto for many years for various charity projects.
