Maya Hakvoortborn in the Netherlands, trained at the Maastricht Conservatory at the cabaret academy and drama school "De Trap" in Amsterdam. She celebrated her breakthrough in Austria in 1994 as "Elisabeth" in the musical of the same name, which she performed over 1000 times in Vienna, Trieste, Osaka, Tokyo and in front of Schönbrunn Palace, Vienna.
She has played numerous leading roles in productions such as Chicago, Les Misérables, Gaudí, Catharine, Blood Brothers, Aspects of Love, The Three Musketeers, Jekyll & Hyde, Evita, High Society, Kiss me Kate, Victor/Victoria, Rebecca, Love Never Dies, Sunset Boulevard, Cats, Next to Normal, Don Camillo & Peppone, Little Me, Carrie, Anatevka, Into the Woods, Cabaret. She can currently be seen in Sunset Boulevard at the Landestheater in Innsbruck.
Since 2004, she has been producing her solo programs, the concert series "Voices of Musical" and her musical productions "Next to Normal", "Blood Brothers" and "Into the Woods" with her company MHMP. She is currently also on tour with the concerts: "The Music of Bond", "Voices of Musical - Hollywood 2.0 " and "Maya Hakvoort "Soundtracks of my life".
In April 2024, she celebrated with "Maya Hakvoort in Concert honoring Barbra Streisand" premiere and can be seen with this program on an ongoing basis. Since May 2024 she has been singing Lady Macbeth in the new musical Lady M. in Shanghai.
From October 3, 2025, she can be seen in the musical "Wicked", followed by "The Sound of Music" in February 2026 at the Stadttheater in Baden. On September 19, 2026, she will celebrate her birthday on stage at the Globe Vienna with friends and colleagues.
Maya was awarded the Golden Medal of Merit of the Republic of Austriathe Grand Decoration of Honor for Services to the Province of Lower Austriathe Golden Rathausmann of the City of Vienna and in 2023 was awarded the Austrian Music Theater Prize 2023 for "Best Musical Performance".
In February 2025, Maya Hakvoort became the first European woman to receive the Shanghai Magnolia Stage Performance Award in the category "Best leading role" for her outstanding interpretation of the title role in "Lady M."
