PROGRAM

The composers and musical humorists Igudesman & Joo have a lot in common with Rachmaninoff. They take great pleasure in turning things on their heads. In one of Rachmaninoff's last compositions - Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini - the artist took Paganini's famous theme and simply turned it on its head to create one of the greatest melodies of all time. It's so great that Bill Murray has it playing every day in the movie "Groundhog Day", and in the video game Gran Turismo, the same tune plays while players rev their engines in the calm before the storm. But what if Igudesman & Joo turn what Rachmaninoff has already turned on its head... on its head again?

"Igudesman & Joo are not only virtuoso musicians, but also masters of comedy.
Everything they touch turns to gold."

Aleksey and Hyung-ki met at the age of twelve at the Yehudi Menuhin School in England, where they became friends over a portion of fish and chips. In 2004, they followed in the footsteps of luminaries Victor Borge and Dudley Moore and began creating their groundbreaking shows. Since then, many of the world's most renowned musicians have asked to be part of their musical mayhem, including Emanuel Axe, Joshua Bell, Ray Chen, Janine Jansen, Gidon Kremer, Viktoria Mullova, Vasily Petrenko, Julian Rachlin and Yuja Wang. The two have also teamed up with John Malkovich on the CD album "You Just Have to Laugh" and Igudesman's show "The Music Critic", with whom they still tour regularly, as well as with former James Bond, Sir Roger Moore, with whom the duo has collaborated several times for UNICEF.

As a soloist, Aleksey Igudesman has collaborated with Oscar-winning Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer, and Hyung-ki Joo was commissioned by Billy Joel, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, to arrange Joel's solo piano compositions and record them on a CD that reached #1 on the Billboard charts.

In addition to their own productions, IGUDESMAN & JOO have appeared in numerous films, including the mockumentary, Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Classical Music, Pianomania, Breaking Beethoven and the award-winning Noseland.
