The four musicians Blaž Kemperle, Jacopo Taddei, Alan Lužar and Guerino Bellarosa met in Cologne, where they founded the SIGNUM saxophone quartet in 2006. The saxophonists studied in Cologne, Vienna and Paris and were inspired by the Quatuor Ébène, the Artemis Quartet and Gabor Takács-Nágy. After winning prizes at international competitions in Lugano and Berlin, among others, SIGNUM now performs in concert halls and at festivals in Europe and around the world; in 2013 they made their debut at Carnegie Hall NY. A very special distinction is the nomination as "ECHO Rising Stars 2014/2015" by the European Concert Hall Organization (ECHO), and the invitation to the most important concert halls in Europe: Barbican Centre London, Konzerthaus Wien, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Palais des Beaux-Arts Bruxelles, Gulbenkian Lisbon, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Philharmonie Luxembourg, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Konzerthaus Dortmund, Philharmonie Köln. In August 2017, SIGNUM also received the "NORDMETALL Ensemble Prize" from the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival. SIGNUM can be seen on stage not only as a quartet, but also in many exciting chamber music projects, including with pianist Kai Schumacher.
