The Clarinet Trio Anthology │Daniel Ottensamer + Stephan Koncz + Christoph Traxler

PROGRAM

When do you ever have the time to delve into the history of a niche genre like the clarinet trio? The first corona lockdown was just such an opportunity for clarinettist Daniel Ottensamer, cellist Stephan Koncz and pianist Christoph Traxler. Unlike many artists these days, the three were not interested in a musical quick fix, they wanted to use the time of standstill to dive deep into the repertoire of their constellation, to find out what influence the master trios of Ludwig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms have left on other composers, across all times and across all continents.

In fact, the anthology opens up completely new boundaries, traveling to France at the turn of the century, collecting influences from jazz and new music, settling in Vienna, where the trio even brings a fragment sketch by Arnold Schoenberg to life, and confronting great masterpieces with new sounds.

(Axel Brüggemann)
